Using Data and AI to Put the Patient First: What We Heard at Fierce Pharma 2026

It’s no surprise that AI dominated conversations at Fierce Pharma this year, and the leaders that we spoke with agreed on something deeper: AI only delivers value when humans stay in charge and patients, and their privacy, stay at the center. A few themes surfaced repeatedly across these conversations.

1. Impactful speed was the first constant: brands and agencies want it real-time and actionable, not just abundant; meaningful patient signal detection, not data volume, as the real differentiator.

The takeaway: Ensure your insights surface fast enough to act on throughout the campaign, not just after it ends.

2. AI conversations have matured from “should we” to “how do we operationalize it responsibly.” Attendees pointed to agentic AI working behind the scenes (monitoring signals and optimizing campaigns throughout a lifecycle, not just at the end) while insisting humans stay in charge of what AI recommends.

The takeaway: Keep a human checkpoint on every AI-driven decision and build internal AI literacy so teams trust the system instead of blindly deferring to it.

3. The era of disconnected, single-purpose tools is ending. Attendees described connecting sales with marketing, and reaching beyond the prescribing physician to the full care team, including NPs, PAs, pharmacists, and office staff. Omnichannel is now table stakes, though its definition still varies widely.

The takeaway: Use tools that can reach HCPs, their teams, their ABM management, and the patients they all treat to ensure campaigns are maximizing their impact.

4. Compliance and data governance are always top of mind in a world where state laws seem to be changing monthly, framed not as a brake on innovation but as its foundation, especially as privacy regulations evolve. And no one claimed to solve this alone: leaders pointed to partnerships as the way forward, because everyone wins when the patient does.

The takeaway: Build compliance from day one and choose partners who solve a specific problem well rather than promise to do everything.

The throughline: move fast, stay compliant, and never lose the human thread.
